Workshop on Regional Disparities in Georgia

Wednesday, 17 July 2013 13:42 Published in News 0 comment

On Thursday 13 June, this project organised a workshop on the Extent and Nature of Regional Disparities in Georgia. We had commissioned a study of this subject from the International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET) and wished to use it both to inform on-going programming work and to stimulate more research interest in the area.

There were 45 participants in the workshop, including Georgian public officials and academic experts as well as representatives of Donor agencies and the TA and ISET teams. The Workshop was introduced by First Deputy Minister Tengiz Shergalishvili and by Ramon Reigada Granda, Head of Operations at the European Union's Delegation in Georgia.

A detailed presentation of the study by Michael Fuenfzig (leader of the ISET research team) was followed by over one hour of focused discussion. The discussion concentrated, to an almost equal extent, on issues of both data availability and reliability, and related policy concerns.
